A site specific event at the UCSC Arboretum

A Dawn & Two Dusks takes place over three days on the grounds of the UCSC Arboretum. Co-conceived by sound and media artist Anna Friz (FDM) and choreographer Cid Pearlman (PPD), this project proposes resilience and exuberant corporealities through interdisciplinary collaborations, engaging the arts in response to urgent and unstable times.
May 4th, Dawn Chorus, 5:15-7:00am
UCSC and Santa Cruz Community members are invited to attend a listening event at the UCSC Arboretum just before dawn on Sunday May 4, International Dawn Chorus Day. We will listen to the ambient dawn chorus of birds and other sounds awakening as the sun rises over the Arboretum for approximately 60 minutes together.
May 30-31, A Dawn & Two Dusks, 5:30-8:30pm
Beginning at 5:30pm and continuing on until sunset, A Dawn and Two Dusks features live performance, installations, and a culminating event to watch the sky darken together.
A Dawn & Two Dusks premieres GROVE, a new collaboration from Friz and Pearlman, featuring 32 UCSC, Cabrillo College, and Santa Cruz Community dancers. Other Dawn and Two Dusks artists include Jonathan Jackson, Ben Leeds Carson, Patrick Ballard/Nowhere Lab, Patty Gallagher, and other UCSC faculty and graduate students from across the campus.

This project is an Anna Friz/Burrow of Investigation and Cid Pearlman Performance co-production, and is made possible in part through generous support from the UCSC Arboretum, the EVC’s Leading the Change Collaboration Series, the Arts Research Institute for Collaborative Research Grant, Indexical, the Community Foundation Santa Cruz County, and the many contributions of the participating artists.
